What is the Birdathon?
The Audubon Birdathon is a
fundraising event held in early May of each year. It is also a competitive, social, and fun birding event.
The rules are simple: identify as many bird species as possible in the
designated 24-hour period, within the greater Fort Collins area.
Birders are organized into teams. Under
guidance of the leader, each team decides its own strategy: mode of travel, when
to go, where to go, how to get there, how long to stay, what equipment to bring,
etc. Species may be identified by
sight or sound, and the team members should concur on every identification.
Participation in a
Birdathon team costs nothing, but team members must recruit
sponsors to pledge an amount for each species identified.
Each year FCAS awards prizes to those participants with the most pledges.
Where Do the Proceeds Go?
The funds raised by the Fort Collins Birdathon
are allocated toward a number of Chapter goals, including support of state
lobbying efforts, Chapter scholarship, program
meeting room, educational projects, and general expenses.
We have received donations from several local businesses in support
of our annual Birdathon fundraiser, including those listed below. Please
let these businesses know you appreciate their support by supporting
them!
