Early Spring on the Pawnee
8:00 AM-2:30 PM
Leader: Phil Friedman
Twenty one people met at the Colorado Welcome Center on East Prospect
(Fort Collins) at 8 AM. The weather was cool (40 F-then warmed to maybe 50
F) and partly sunny-no snow on the ground. A great early spring day. Trip
basics were covered at the Welcome Center and then carpools formed for the
50 minute drive to Crow Valley campground near Briggsdale.
We spent the first couple of hours birding at Crow Valley campground
and then, after lunch, moved to Murphy's Pasture out on the
grasslands. The feeders at the forest service work center were not
present, so no bird were seen in this usually productive area.
Note: birds marked CV were seen at Crow Valley campground and MP were
seen on the pasture or dirt roads on the forest service birding loop.
Birds seen on the drive there or back are marked D.
