Saturday, January 25. Morning. Jason Beason and Nick Komar led 11 others on a wild goose chase to find Three-toed Woopeckers in the Bobcat burn area southwest of Masonville (on property owned by the Eden Valley Institute). Although no rare woodpeckers were found, the group did see 27 Hairy Woodpeckers and 3 Downy Woodpeckers (including 1 eastern race). Other birds seen were:

Golden Eagle-5
Canyon Wren-1
Pygmy and white-breasted Nuthatches - several of each
Brown Creepers- several
Steller's Jay-several.

Also of interest was a portion of a Northern Pygmy-Owl wing and turkey feathers underneath an apparent roost tree.
