Gulls
Leader Nick Komar
(quetzal65@comcast.net). Six gull aficionados participated in the
field trip in Loveland from 9 am to 2 pm. Gulls were more scarce than
usual, but several groups were found at Loveland High School parking lot,
Donath Reservoir, Rist Benson Lake, and Larimer County Landfill. Most were
Ring-billed Gulls, but a few dozen Herring Gulls were also present, and
several California Gulls have arrived. A rare Lesser Black-backed Gull and
Thayer's Gull (both immatures) were present at the Landfill. Other
highlights included great looks at three subspecies of Canada Goose and
hundreds of Cackling Geese (Richardson's race) at Lake Loveland, and a
very cooperative flock of Cedar Waxwings, graced by two Bohemian Waxwings,
also at Lake Loveland.
