FORT COLLINS AUDUBON SOCIETY
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
THURSDAY, MARCH 2, 2000
NATIONAL SEED STORAGE LAB
COLORADO STATE UNIVERSITY

Present: Sue Kenney, Rick Schroeder, Cynthia Melcher, Kathleen Tracy, Joel Hurmence, Rick Harness, John Waddell, Jackie Boss, Dale Agger.

The minutes from January 20, 2000 were approved.

Cynthia discussed a way that our chapter might get involved in the Janos Project. Project Manager, Patricia Manzano is seeking grants for the research project near Janos Mexico. She needs a US charitable organization with 501(C)3 status as a place to funnel the funds. Our chapter is interested in helping out this way. Kathleen will check the tax code to see if we have a $10,000 gross receipt limit and Cynthia will express our interest and willingness to Patricia and report with more details.

Cynthia discussed a possible script for a telethon. This is wide ranging but seeks to build volunteer ranks. There was some concern about what volunteers could do and managing them. Cynthia volunteered to be the Volunteer Coordinator and maintain the database. After discussion it was decided that Cynthia and Bill will do a trial run with 50 names. It was suggested that urging people to come to program meetings be included.

Newsletter - still no new editor. Kathleen volunteered to put together the April issue. Most people had received the March Ptarmigan by now so timing went well this month.

Earth Day - April 22 is the 30th anniversary and there are some city-wide celebrations. It was decided to ask the membership at the next two program meetings to sign up to staff a table at the event with a Board member. Cynthia and Sue will try to come up with some simple and fun activities to do at the table rather than just passively handing out materials.

The next program is Thursday, March 9 with Tony Leukering from CBO. The Board will take him out to dinner at the Rainbow. Jackie will make arrangements. Jackie recieved permission to also pay for Scott Gillihan's dinner that night. He is also with CBO and is interested in starting a monitoring station in Fort Collins.

The Board watched a video from National Audubon concerning the declining membership. Afterward there was a lively discussion about the things that national does and doesn't do. These comments will be noted and delivered to Susan Kirkpatrick. If other chapters have some of the same concerns National should probably know about it.

Meeting adjourned at 9:15 pm.

please note that the discussion about membership will follow at a later date.
