TOUCHING THE LIVES OF CHILDREN
ONE CHILD AT A TIME.
An estimated 15 percent of the children living in Colorado do not receive adequate medical attention. An even more disturbing fact is that the majority, or 87 percent, of these families are low-income working people who simply cannot afford the high cost of insurance.
On July 7, 1989, after many months
of hard work and preparation, the Children's Clinic (under the watchful eyes
of Dr. Tom Wera, Dr. Charles Collopy, and a community task force), opened its
doors to some of the most needy families in Larimer County--the working poor
and the Medicaid patients. Services are provided to children at or below 150
percent of Federal Poverty Level, ages newborn to 18, non-insured, and non-CSU
dependent.
Generous private contributors continue to be the backbone of financial support
for the Children's Clinic. These donations and grants account for two-thirds
of the annual budget; the other one-third is provided by Medicaid payments.
Many of the prescription drugs for chronic care cases and other supplies are
donated, which helps contain the rapidly escalating costs of related services.
