In the fall of 2010 we began our Performance
Partner program where we team up
with local charitable organizations.
Our partnership involves bringing
information to our patrons and audiences
about the organization, and sharing the
donated proceeds from our concerts. We
have a new Performance Partner for each
concert.
Our
first
Performance
Partner
was
Respite Care of Fort Collins, which provides
short-term quality care for children with
developmental disabilities and respite to
their families.
This
past
spring
we
partnered
with local student Leah Fox and her two
fund-raising efforts, Pennies 4
Pumps and Dragonfly
Jewelry. Leah raises fund to
purchase insulin pumps for children; her
story and more information about her
fund-raising efforts can be found on her
website.
For our December program CYC is partnering
with Front
Range Exceptional Equestrians, a
Fort Collins based therapeutic riding
program. Read more about this
incredible organization below.

Front Range
Exceptional Equestrians
(F.R.E.E.) is
a therapeutic horseback
riding
organization that serves
people with special
needs. Based in Fort
Collins, our
trained volunteers and
certified instructors
provide classes at
Colorado State
University and at Legacy
Stables.
What
is therapeutic
horseback riding?
People with
physical, cognitive,
or emotional
challenges benefit
greatly from
horseback riding.
For those with
physical
challenges, riding a
horse moves the
rider’s body in a
manner similar to a
human gait, which
improves
flexibility,
balance,
coordination, and
muscle
strength.
Therapeutic riding
helps those with
cognitive issues to
plan and process
instructions.
Individuals with
emotional challenges
gain increased
confidence,
patience, and
self-esteem. All
riders benefit from
the socialization
with each
other, volunteers,
and instructors, as
well as the
human-animal
bond.Riders are
accompanied by horse
leaders and side
walkers to help
steady them in the
saddle. Certified
instructors conduct
activities such as
walking and trotting
in a circle or
through obstacles.
Riders do stretching
exercises on
horseback and
enjoy games. In
addition to class
work, riders may
take part in horse
shows and
trail rides.
Horses
are donated or
privately owned.
All horses are
evaluated for
their temperament,
physical
condition, and
suitability for
the program. They
receive training
for
learning to
respond to voice
commands, to
accommodate riders
with balance
issues, and to
work with the
leaders and side
walkers.
F.R.E.E.
is a recognized as
a Premiere
Accredited Center
by the
Professional
Association
of Therapeutic
Horsemanship
International
(PATH Intl.). To
qualify for this
accreditation,
F.R.E.E. must meet
strict
requirements and
be re-evaluated
every
five years.
Formed in 1983 as
‘Let’s Ride’, the
organization name
was changed to
Front Range
Exceptional
Equestrians in
1987
and became a
non-profit
501(c)(3)
corporation.
F.R.E.E. is
supported by
direct
contributions,
special events
(including our
TEES Fore TWO golf
tournament in
September), and
grants.
