HTML Team Meeting Minutes - 02/23/95
720 North Wood Street
Fort Collins, CO 80521
02/23/95, 7 pm
Attendees
- (List is unavailable at this time)
Old Business
- Status of Current HTML Assignments
- Transfort (Roger May): Transfort is ready to go online
as soon as the paperwork is sorted out and they have and
account. Future plans are to have a server at Transfort with
an in-house staffer to do HTMLs.
- Water Department (Howie Grapek): Made a presentation at
Water Department with Scott Harder. They all said "Cool," but
there is still quite a bit of speculation concerning what they
actually want to do on line. They are talking about putting
their annual Water Festival on line.
- Light and Power Department (Howie Grapek): Light and
Power enthusiastic and are still trying to determine what
they want to do.
- Poudre Valley Hospital (on hold): PVH is still involved
in a major internal committee discussion.
- The Coloradoan proposal has been submitted to the publisher.
- Prodigy does provide a very poor version of a Netscape browser.
We are still having some problems with our DOS/Windows install disks. We as
volunteers need address this issue to help get people up on line.
NOTE: You have to turn off the Windows accelerators if you are using
WINTERM.EXE to access the system via Lynx.
- Greg Luse: There are serious bugs in Mosaic versions 8 and 9. Mosaic
version 7 appears to be fine (2.0 a7.1)
- Howie Grapek: It might be reasonable to create a HTML group login to handle
FortNet internal documentation. We will go ahead and do this tonight or
tommorrow morning. We need to open access to more people to make minor
changes and do updates to existing information rather than processing it all
through the Webmasters. There will be some sort of revision control system
put in place.
As part of updating the help pages we need to add pointers to tools.
- Roger May: MicroSoft has released a version of Internet Assistant for Word
6.0.
- Howie: There are style sheets and converters for AMI Pro, Word, WordPerfect,
etc. We need to get these on line. We need to create a newsgroup called
Fortnet.binary and a directory under /pub to handle pointers to off-site
versions. We have a lot of discussion that is going to start happening in
this area.
- ONLINE NOW
- We raised the issue of whether or not the City has an account
and a place to put the City's information. We considered the
notion of setting up a directory for the city while we are
waiting for the city to complete legal agreements and tabled
it until we can get a clearer reading from the Board.
Howie Grapek volunteered to pursue this issue.
- The todo [file] exists and an ongoing todo list will probably
happen before the weekend.
- Where are we on Quality Assurance Group?
- We have a preliminary standard linked off of Lisa Beal's home page
http://www.fortnet.org/~lbeal/
Lisa wants eMail on the standard by Wednesday March 1.
Both comments on standards and information provider agreements are
welcome.
- Discussion of the sole provider clause (paragraph 4) of present agreement.
We are not getting back much in the way of agreements.
Again this is a Board issue. Among others, Transfort has been at the
lawyers for at least three weeks now.
- The scanner (HP Scan Jet 2CX) is now operational and the OCR is
functional. 7 point to 14 point type seems to convert cleanly from copy
up to legal size. Copy to be scanned should be in crisp clean print--
second generation photocopies are a problem. Anyone who needs scanning
or OCR done can contact Roger May in order to get time on the scanner.
New Business
- No New HTML Assignments were issued
- Lisa Beal and Roger May will put together a FAQ for the windows
news viewer.
- Lisa Beal is working on a PPP login script. To set up a PPP
account you still have to request an additional account from
Aaron.
- Please note any modifications that you have made to make
commercial InterNet in-a-can setups function with FortNet.
- There are now 48 members listed in the HTML group.
- The standards guide will be up on-line soon. Howie promises a
flood of e-mail in the next few days.
Presentation
-
CGI Programming (Howie Grapek)
-
The remainder of the meeting was a basic class on CGI programming using as
an example an automated script to take air quality data transmitted from a
remote site in ASCII text and generate an HTML document from it. The long
term intent of the project is to provide this data online in a timely
fashion.
