CALL TO ORDER: 7:00 pm
ANNOUNCEMENTS / CALL FOR AGENDA ITEMS: 7:00 - 7:05 pm
- PARKING - Please do not park in the lot on the west side of the
building. This parking is reserved for building tenants (like ADII,
who is kind enough to let us use their classrooms for our meetings).
There is ample free parking at the municipal parking garage across
Remington Street; please use this so we don't upset our valued
neighbors here at the Downtown Technology Center. THANK YOU!
- CALL FOR AGENDA ITEMS - if you need to add an item for discussion
during the meeting, please plan to do so at the start of the meeting.
Topics will also be taken before the meeting.
PRESENTATION: 7:05 - 7:20
Bells and Whistles - Part 2: Image Maps [Lisa Beal, BLT Enterprises]
OLD BUSINESS: 7:20 - 7:35
- FortNet Internal Projects
Work on one of these projects counts toward the three projects
required before one can join the HTML QQuality Assurance Team.
There is also a requirement of three months of volunteering for
FortNet (in any capacity) before admission to the HTML QA team.
- Fortnet Help Pages have many problems, omissions. This project
will require beginnerto intermediate level skills, and involves
updating the existing pages PLUS the possible addition of Windows 95
and Linux support pages. Some of the information for the latter part
is already in circulation in the System Administration and Webmaster
teams. See Joe Watson or Lisa Beal for details.
- The FortNet Credits ("Thank You") Page does not reflect the
current group of hard working volunteers who are all keeping FortNet
afloat. We also have received donations from many sources. The
structure of the Credits page could be re-organized as follows:
- Those who donated equipment to make FortNet a reality
- Those who gave FortNet its 'jump start'
- The current crew who keep things running
This project would be a great beginner level item. See Lisa Beal for
details.
- Many pages still show up as Under Construction. These need
to be identified and classified into several categories:
- Pages that just need the words UNDER CONSTRUCTION removed.
- Pages that need to have material added.
- Pages that should be removed, for one reason or another.
- Pages that don't fit the other categories neatly.
This is an intermediate level project, as it requires use of some
Unix tools (like find and grep).
- (more projects here soon)
- Upcoming Presentations and Teaching Opportunities
- Those with interest in teaching should contact Lisa Beal
(lbeal) or
The HTML Training Coordinator.
- Small, informal groups may discuss one or more of these topics
outside the meeting timeframe.
- FortNotes HTML Spotlight
- It was suggested that the FortNet HTML group publish a monthly
column via FortNet's newsletter. A call for volunteers to write
articles will be made (again). Potential topics might be:
- My first HTML Team meeting - a first impression
- The two FortNets - profit vs. non-profit
- "Wounded by the Schrapnel(sp?) of the Information Explosion"
- Personal Home pages
- A review of a favorite web tool, computer equipment for HTML
authoring (e.g., a scanner or printer)
- Something else of interest to a wide audience
NEW BUSINESS: 7:35 - 7:40
- Holiday Party [T. Norton, L. Beal] -
what, where, when, who (organizers)
- Access to the building for meetings - who has the key, which
entrance we should use, etc.
SMALL GROUP MEETINGS: 7:40 - 8:15
- New User Orientation [Tom Gaucher, New User Liason]
- HTML Q&A Session [Lisa Beal, Matt Larsen, Joe Watson]
