As on file with the secretary.

Old Business

  1. Congress of Neighborhoods:
The event was attended by approximately 200 people. FortNet was present and had promotional information available.

  2. FortNet Community Access Center:
There will be an open house Saturday April 13, 1996 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm to formally open this facility.

We are still seeking volunteers to help supervise the center.

  3. Status of FortNet Re-design project:
Terry Burton's project is being submitted to the html team for completion and testing.

New Business

  1. April 10th we will have an election for a new HTML chair person, so your attendance is well appreciated. Lisa has a new job and her time is limited so this action is necessary. So please plan to attend.

Lisa should be recognized for her outstanding contributions of time, enthusiasm and talent to FortNet as webmadam, HTML Team Leader, and general systems guru.

The rest of us will definitely have to take our vitamins to try to fill the void left during her excursion to Antarctica.

  2. FortNet Re-design:
Terry has outlined the re-design and has asked for assistance in filling out the lower level pages and links. A general discussion of the page layout followed.

General reaction to the pages was highly favorable. There were two exceptions taken to the pages:

    1. [Hans] A search function with an entry field should be added to the pages. Mike Goshorn and Charles Clarke quickly pointed out that we currently lack the search engine to do Yahoo-style searches, especially the context-sensitive searches. Lisa added that database stuff for the Web at FortNet is an area that we must improve to stay competitive.

    2. [John Homan] The question of too much redundancy (between the first- and second-level pages) was raised. Do we need to repeat so much? No decision was made on this point, as the pros and cons on this seemed to balance out pretty evenly.

[Neil] There was some discussion at the meeting about using a consistent background or watermark among all the FortNet owned pages. We did not come to an agreement on whether or not to, much less what it should be.

[Charles] preference is for a consistent background. Without actually deciding on a background, we could make a SSI file that we can then change whenever we feel like it or try for voting purposes or whatever.

[Mike] Should the home page include Java applets. There are some concerns over browser capabilities or problems.

All pass on their thanks for everybody's hard work with this. We will test the pages in the Windows (3.x, 95), X, Mac and Lynx browsers to see if we spot any problems. Unless we find a fundamental error in the model used for these pages, all agreed that we would start to populate portions of the menu hierarchy, INCLUDING the Help and HTML Team pages. Correspondence regarding the review and implementation of the new pages will be directed to webstuff
