FORT COLLINS-- Maximize the marketing potential for your business. Plan a vacation. Research your family history. Learn how to do all this and more at the second annual Community Internet Festival. The Community Internet Festival, scheduled for Saturday, January 24, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., will include a variety of educational sessions and hands-on activities to increase enthusiasm and awareness about the Internet and how it can enrich everyday living and learning. The event, which will be held at Rocky Mountain High School, is designed to help the community learn more about the Internet and how it can be used to meet the needs of any individual or business.
The Community Internet Festival, presented by FortNet, the Community Information Network, will offer something for everyone. Following is a sampling of topics which will be presented at the Community Internet Festival educational sessions:
The Festival features two keynote speakers. Susan Darley from Microsoft in Denver will speak on "Living a Web Lifestyle," and local speaker Judy Fort Brenneman will make "A Case for Creativity." A complete schedule of topics and their corresponding times can be found at the FortNet festival site (www.fortnet.org/CIF) or by calling FortNet at 970-224-5991.
Other exciting activities include a hands-on computer lab to explore the Internet, continuous demonstrations, a children's activity center with games, magicians and movies, and door prizes to be given away throughout the day. Vendors will introduce attendees to Internet products and services, and exhibitors will display locally meaningful information. For example, business owners can learn how to link to FortNet's popular site at no charge and attendees can provide input on what type of information they would like to obtain from the City of Fort Collins web site. Lunch and refreshments will be available for purchase. Admission is free, and attendees can drop in for all or part of the day.
Interest in telecommunications is very high. According to Neil Allen, Executive Director of FortNet, "The Internet is affecting our lifestyles significantly. The Community Internet Festival is designed to help expand awareness about the opportunities available on the Internet and at FortNet. When you see the potential impact of the Internet on your business and your life, it is impossible not to get excited!" Currently, over 30,000 area residents get on the Internet at home, school and work. More than 800 people are expected to attend the second annual Community Internet Festival.
