AN OVERVIEW OF PROGRAMS:

Food Baskets
Client families may receive one food basket (15-18 meals) per month. Additional food may be provided by a caseworker. Food baskets are nutritionally balanced and consistent. They include non-perishable food such as fruit, vegetables, pasta, cereal, soup, beans, rice, tuna, peanut butter, bread, and pastry products, and perishable food such as milk, eggs, butter, and meat. In addition, they contain toiletries and incidentals. Baby formula and food, diapers, cleaning products and paper products are usually available upon request.

Clothing and Household Items
Clients may shop for clothing and household items once a month, and are asked to pay a small fee. Once a year clients may shop free of charge, and in hardship cases a fee waiver may be issued by an HNS caseworker.

Prescription Program
Clients may be eligible to receive up to $100 in assistance per family member per year. These prescriptions may be of any nature.

Utility Assistance
Through a cooperative effort with the City of Loveland, HNS is able to help qualified clients with one electric bill if the client family has experienced undue hardship because of illness, job loss, etc.

Emergency Shelter
Homeless residents may be eligible to receive up to one week of emergency shelter in a local motel.

Transients may receive one night of housing. For persons with no cooking facilities, homeless food baskets are prepared.

Step-Up Housing Step-Up housing is designed to provide a more stable solution to the housing crisis in Loveland. HNS is collaborating with Neighbor-to-Neighbor to assist clients with first month’s rent and their damage-deposit guarantee. HNS' other partner, the Center for Adult Learning, will offer budgeting classes as part of this program. Individuals must meet specific guidelines to qualify.

Transportation Program
HNS will assist individuals needing help with transportation including bus passes and tokens, emergency gas vouchers, and repairs. Individuals must be working, have a job interview, or have a medical emergency to qualify for this program.

Special Medical Assistance
The HNS special medical assistance program is designed to help individuals with chronic illnesses to purchase ongoing, life-sustaining prescription medication. Many of these clients are suffering from diabetes, heart problems or multiple health problems, etc., and are unable to afford needed prescription medications. Qualified individuals may receive up to $500 in prescription vouchers per year. Small medical equipment is also available under this program.

Miscellaneous Assistance
Assistance may be information and referral, medicated shampoo, holiday assistance, back-to-school program for children, etc.

"A Mother's Love"

Nothing is more inspirational than a mother’s love and concern for her child or children. In 2004, approximately 40 percent of our clients were children. Each day we witness the heartbreak mothers experience because they are not able to provide basic necessities for their children…
