November is Mead Month at NCBA. Members John Maday and Jason Goldman will be conducting two different mead sessions this month.
Saturday, November 8th, 2-4 pm there will be a Mead Tasting Event at John Maday's house at 7109 Ranger Drive.
We will start with a structured tasting, with three or four different meads. Jason is good at describing how to evaluate aroma and pick out different flavors and characteristics of the drink. So we'll take some time tasting small samples, discussing, comparing and contrasting the different styles, etc.
After that, the session turns completely informal. We just socialize, open whatever other meads are available, sample them, discuss, graze on some snacks.
Here are directions to 7109 Ranger Drive:
John Maday is located in the Registry Ridge subdivision, which is at the SW corner of the intersection of Shields and Trilby on the SW side of Fort Collins. From Shields, just South of Trilby, turn West on Truxun Drive. The turn is just about 200 yards south of the stoplight at Trilby. Take Truxun about five blocks West to where it ends. Turn left (South) on Ranger Drive. Take Ranger South about six blocks South. The house is on the right, a gray two-story, address is 7109 Ranger.
On Sunday, November 16th beginning at noon, there will be a Mead Making Event at Jason Goldman's house at 1900 Ridgewood Rd. John will be hosting a mead brewing event at his home. This will run from noon-3pm or so. For this event, John will be brewing a batch of mead and talking about the process. John is also inviting other homebrewers to this event and is hoping we'll get some others brewing at the same time to show some different alternatives and approaches. Sheron from Foxryde will be helping with this event as well (assuming the schedule works). She's a fine local meadmaker and a fellow instructor, so this should be a great opportunity for the NCBA to learn a lot.
Directions to Jason’s at 1900 Ridgewood Rd: Take Stuart west from Shields (this is between Prospect and Drake). Go straight at the stop sign. Turn right at the first right turn, which is Ridgewood Road . 1900 is around the curve on the left.
