Sofya Norman, YOR Concert Master was selected to participate in a master class session with concert violinist Kate Lansdale at the 40th annual Suzuki Association of Americas Conference in Minneapolis, MN in May 2012. Congratulations, Sofya!

Zach Prevedel (oboe) was selected as an alternate to the Colorado All State Band! He is a sophomore at Ridgeview Classical Schools.

Cammy Swab, YOR percussionist, was selected for PSD middle school honor band!

Ivan Schmich Kinney, first trombone with YOR, was chosen for Northern Colorado Honor Band and the upcoming CSU Honor Band Festival. Congratulations, Ivan!!

Miranda Brugman (viola) and her acting partner received Superior marks for their performance of the short play "Monument" at the Colorado Thespians Conference in December.

2.1.2012 - Congratulations to Caroline Miller (bassoon) and David Leech (clarinet), winners of the 2012 YOR Concerto Competition!! David will perform Carl Maria von Weber's Concerto #2 in F Major Op. 74 - Alla Polacco, and Caroline will perform Mozart's Bassoon Concerto in Bb Major - Andante with the Symphony Orchestra.

1.29.2012 - Congratulations to YOR's brave and talented members Seth Johnston, Cammy Swab, Yuqi Bian, Jadee Jin, David Leech, Willow Lehnhausen, Caroline Miller, and Jonathan Zuniga for your outstanding performances at last night's C4 competition and fundraiser! The judges have some terribly difficult decisions to make! Many thanks to everyone who made the event a success.

1.16.2012 - Please join us for the 1st annual "C4: Cheese, Chocolate, and Concerto Competition" celebration and fundraiser on Saturday, January 28th, 2012! Eight YOR musicians will perform their concerto pieces beginning at 7:00, followed by wine and cheese, chocolate and chamber music, live and silent auctions, and jazz with Maestro Blomster and friends! 1.8.2012 - Welcome to our many new members and to all of the fine musicians who are giving YOR a trial run! We look forward to another great rehearsal (was tonight really the first run-through? Amazing!) next Sunday.

1.5.2012 - The first rehearsal of the Spring season is this Sunday, 1/8/2012! We look forward to seeing our returning musicians and welcoming our new members. The first 2 rehearsals of the season are open to all potentially-interested musicians. Come and see what YOR has to offer!

12.15.11 - The Youth Orchestras of the Rockies (YOR) are delighted to announce that we have been selected to participate in the Colorado Chamber Orchestra's Wes Blomster Music Mentoring Fund Artist in Residence program!

The Wes Blomster Music Mentoring Fund has just been established by the Colorado Chamber Orchestra (CCO) in memory of Wesley Verne Blomster, long-time national and local music critic and music advocate. The CCO is proud to announce that the Wes Blomster Music Mentoring Fund is sponsoring an Artist in Residence program with the Youth Orchestras of the Rockies starting on January 8, 2012. Professional musicians from the Colorado Symphony, the Colorado Chamber Orchestra, regional orchestras, and faculty from regional colleges will be sitting in on rehearsals with the YOR and leading coaching sessions every week.

This program establishes the Youth Orchestras of the Rockies as the only youth orchestra of it's kind in Colorado/Wyoming. We are honored to host these fine artists and to provide this exceptional experience to our talented young musicians.

Musicians interested in joining the YOR are invited to audition anytime or to attend one of the first two rehearsals of the Spring season (1/8/2012 or 1/15/2012 at Ridgeview Classical Schools, 1800 South Lemay Avenue Fort Collins, Colorado 80525). Please arrive by 2:45 with your instrument(s). Rehearsal ends at 5:30. Parents are welcome to attend but are not required to stay.
