Symphony

The YOR Symphony Orchestra draws
its members from among the most talented young musicians from
northern Colorado and southern Wyoming. The Symphony presents
three major concerts per year in Fort Collins, CO, and tours
the region providing high quality concerts and additional performance
experience for our musicians.
The Symphony is the YOR’s most advanced ensemble. Musicians
up to age 22 may audition for the Symphony, but there is no minimum
age. Membership is ability-based. Auditions are held each year
for new and returning members alike.

The Concert Orchestra builds upon our younger
musicians’ skills to develop musicality, to improve
technical ability and sight reading, and to prepare them
for the Symphony Orchestra. Concert Orchestra musicians learn
challenging works, and every member participates in a Prelude
Chamber Ensemble with individual coaching. The Concert Orchestra
performs two major orchestra and chamber concerts per season,
as well as at the YOR Fall Fundraiser. Prelude Chamber Ensembles
are required to perform at least one concert at a small venue
within the community, such as a school, business, or nursing
home.

Prelude Chamber Ensembles
The Prelude Chamber Ensembles program is a groundbreaking
program designed to give the younger musicians of the Concert Orchestra
group early experience with chamber music rehearsal and performance.
The following are objectives of the program:
- The students will learn to be musically independent through
preparing and performing ensemble music that requires individual
responsibility
- Students will learn communication skills/problem solving,
verbal and non-verbal communication skills, and necessary small
ensemble techniques
- The students will also learn performance etiquette and professional
expectations in both rehearsal and concert settings

The Overture Strings group is a new, non-auditioned
ensemble for the 2010-'11 season, and offers young players the
opportunity to join with others in learning and nurturing orchestral
