Disabled Resource Services (DRS) provides many services to improve the independence and quality of life of those seniors, 55 and older, who are blind, or visually impaired, or whose vision is deteriorating. Services help people with vision loss maintain or improve their ability to function as independently as possible wherever they choose to live. These services include independent living skills training for increased self-sufficiency; reading assistance (e.g. Braille instruction, readers, talking or taped books); transportation for individual or group activities; advocacy representation for help in obtaining needed services or equipment/assistive devices; information and referral services; peer counseling for added support and encouragement; monthly support group meetings (e.g. program presentations, field trips, social interaction, etc.); facilitation of medical intervention (e.g. vision screenings, low vision evaluations, treatment for eye conditions, etc.); or mobility orientation (e.g. in-home or community travel with sighted guide, cane travel, etc.). Because services are provided on an individualized basis, clients receive assistance that is tailored to meet their specific needs. Go to top
