WHO WE AREThe Family Center/La Familia (TFC) in north Fort Collins provides support, information, and education to all families who desire to improve the qualities of their lives. TFC seeks to strengthen and stabilize low-income, at-risk families with children under the age of 18 and non-English speaking families through the provision of support services, coordination and collaboration with other service providers, and through the referral process, connect families to basic needs, training, and education. HISTORYThe Family Center/La Familia is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that emerged from from a large coalition of Fort Collins community members called Fort Collins for Families who were concerned about maintaining and enhancing the quality of life for low-income, high-risk families. The Family Center opened its doors in Fort Collins in 1995 as part of the State of Colorado's Family Center Initiative and became a non-profit corporation in September 1996. ACCOMPLISHMENTS34 families with 48 children received Parents as Teachers in-home visits. 72 parents attended classes and the majority increased both parenting knowledge and confidence. 36 homeless children under the age of five from 24 families received childcare, and immunizations while their parents accessed services intended to move them into the work force. Since 1995, TFC has provided early childhood education/childcare services for over 800 children (services/activities included basic childcare, crisis/emergency/long-term & respite childcare, playgroups, support groups, drop-in childcare and family strengthening activities) 21 families with children in the After-School Tutoring Program increased family stability by receiving supervised childcare and homework assistance. |
