Wanted, A Few Good Volunteers
The annual
"Annie Walk" is coming up August 25 and the folks who plan and prepare for it
need some help. If you would like to assist in this effort, please call the Main Library
at 221-8883. Barbara Crandell and Paula Watson-LaKamp would appreciate hearing from
you. If you have been looking for an opportunity to help out, here it is! |

By-Laws
Review and Revision
The Friends of the Library Board has completed
the revision of the organization's by-laws.The proposed revision includes changes in the
governance structure as well other changes necessitated by the creation of the
library district. They will be voted upon by the memhership in the Fall at the November
general membership meeting. Meanwhile, members may pick up a copy of them at either
library and may also read them here on-line by clicking on By-Laws.
The Library district has started the process of selecting a new
name for the library system. This means that at the time of the membership meeting it will
be necessary to make an additional amendment to the proposed by-laws that will substitute
the name that is selected for the Library in those instances where it is mentioned by name
in the proposed by-laws. This will not have a material effect on The Friends or on
its relation to the Library. The proposed by-laws are submitted with the anticipation of
this minor change yet to come.

While the new sourtheast
branch library will not be completed and ready for use until next year about this time,
the optimal time for considering and selecting enhancements to the facility is now.
The library staff has presented a number of different ideas for how money that has
been set aside in the Friends budget might be spent to provide items beyond what the
District's budget for the library can provide. Some relate to features for preschool
children and young readers. Others would respond to the interests of teen agers and still
others to adult patrons. It will not be possible to meet every need of all these groups at
this time but the Board is considering what would constitute a balanced response.
Suggestions from the members are welcomed. |
