AGENDA OF COMMITTEE MEETING ON DECEMBER 7, 2000

Minutes from last meeting – Melinda – Jennifer Ochwat will take minutes at this meeting as Marie could not be here tonight.

Treasurer’s Report – Cindy Clark

Service Project Coordinator – Karen Moore (377-1836H) is our new natural area coordinator. Contact her before the monthly cleanup to schedule trash pickup.

Powwow Update – Rob Pait attended the Denver Council Powwow and will share what went on.

Read your Talon this month!!! It has real information on where FOS funds are used and the benefits to our pack if we meet our goal. The 2001 Cub Scout Family Camp (Camp Jack Nicol) schedule is also included. Also note the district recognition dinner is set for February 9th – location TBA.

Re-chartering is due tonight. Per council, all Webelos II scouts must re-register since our renewal date is now January 1st not February 1st. No registration means you are dropped from the computer on January 1 and will not be eligible to earn your Arrow of Light at our Blue & Gold banquet. Registration is $7.00 – they will not prorate the fee for 2 months.

Religious Emblems – As discussed at November’s committee meeting, the pack will now require a copy of the signed workbook page or a letter from the church to award the religious knot. If you have scouts who earned the Protestant medal this fall be sure to turn that in.

Scout Show – The district scout show is in April, and we need to turn in our booth idea at Roundtable in January. We need someone to lead this project …

Cubmaster Transition – Update from Chuck

December pack meeting – Holidays and Service Project

Setup – Flaming Dragons; Opening Flag – Den 5; Sparkler – Sharks; Closing Flag – Cobras; Take-down – Den 2; Nature Area Cleanup – Badgers and Flaming Dragons

Please be sure to bring "coloring supplies" (glue, markers, crayons, etc.) for your den to use. The pack will provide the paper.

January pack meeting – Cake Bake

Setup – Foxes; Opening Flag - Den 4; Sparklers – Badgers and Den 1; Closing Flag – Flaming Dragons; Take Down – Den 1; Nature Area Cleanup – Foxes & Den 5

CAKE BAKE to benefit FOS goals. Are we following the month’s theme – When I Grow Up? Or do we want to choose a different theme?

***Please note that there will be no awards given to scouts other than Webelos II at February’s Blue & Gold Banquet, so if you have boys who are close to earning their Wolf, Bear or Webelos rank they need to complete it by January or wait until March to receive their award.

Past and Future Pack Meetings – Mark Clark suggested that next year we hold the Space Derby on a weekend with dens assigned a time slot to come and race their rockets. We had a lot of absentees at the last pack meetings due to lack of interest in the derby. Something to keep in mind for next year. We would also consider alternating years with the Raingutter Regatta.

Blue & Gold Banquet Update

Budget discussion – Cindy Clark

Here are items considered for purchase by our pack:

bulletStorage unit – Miramont Self Storage has offered us a discounted rate of $40/month (usually $43/month) for a 5’X10’ unit. We receive a further discount of 10% if we pay for the entire year in advance, which brings the figure to $432 for the year. This would provide storage for our pinewood derby track, space derby track, raingutter regatta track, pinewood derby computer, graduation supplies, etc. We would have all items in one accessible place rather than scattered throughout town in garages.
bulletDay camp items – Suggested items are 2 large water coolers (could also be used at other events), 6 group tarps, bandanas (?)
bulletCraft/project items – Cindy Clark’s mom donated a ton of leather tooling stuff – thanks! Other items are kid-sized hammers (2 sets of 8), pocket knives/carving tools (1 set of 8), rope/knot tying set (2 sets of 10 ropes, book on knots)
bulletPinewood Derby Scale – If you have seen our current scale in action, you know this is a priority.
bulletPack Banner – Used for display at Scout Show, Day Camp, fall recruiting night, etc.
bulletCamping supplies – Dutch oven, spoons, pans, etc. Some of these items could be donations
bulletAny other suggestions?

Suggestion for handling supplies: Appoint a quartermaster. Dens would reserve items in advance with a set-loan period. Dens sign out items with a deposit and agree to replace any damaged goods. Items must be returned in good condition and on time. Items can be renewed if no other den is waiting for them. Basically this would work like a library!

For future budgets – Do we want to schedule budget discussion for December or January? This would work better than August because we would know our popcorn proceeds after November.

Dates to Remember:

December 13 WEDNESDAY Pack meeting, 7-8:30PM at Werner

December 14 Roundtable, 7:30-8:30PM at Harmony Pres – FOS training

January 11 Committee meeting and Roundtable, 6:15PM at Harmony Pres

January 25 Pack meeting, 7-8:30PM at Werner – CAKE BAKE

AGENDA OF COMMITTEE MEETING ON NOVEMBER 9, 2000

Minutes from last meeting – Marie Krizanovic

Treasurer’s Report – Cindy Clark

Scout Store Closures - Fort Collins Mini-store closed December 8 – January 2

bulletGreeley store closed December 21 – January 2

Thank You’s –Cindy Clark’s mom has donated $300 worth of leather working tools to Pack 191, and Jennifer Ochwat’s dad has donated baseball cards to give out at uniform inspection this month.

Powwow Update – Rob Pait attended the Denver Council Powwow and will share what went on.

Scout Night - We were one of the top 5 packs in the district for fall recruitment. Our pack received a Ceremonies book and a Sparklers book for our library.

Popcorn Sales – Our pack was the top-selling pack in the district! We sold $17,508 in popcorn this year with a projected income of $5,077.32, for the pack, plus another 2% ($350.16) to be deposited in our Unit Account. That makes a grand total of $5,427.48.

Popcorn pick up will be on Saturday, November 11th from 11-1:30 – sign up for a time tonight. Pick up the popcorn at Chris Helt’s trailer located at 1524 Redberry Court.

Checks should be made to Pack 191. All money must be turned back in to Heather Wallace by November 30th. Once again, lateness will cost us $125.

The boys’ prizes will be given to leaders at the December pack meeting. The pack will recognize the top 3 sellers with pocketknives that Chuck has. Top 3 sellers were: Landon Ochwat $1,511; David Wells $751; and Jason Clark $638.

Re-chartering will take place in the next few weeks. All charter money and forms need to be turned in to Melinda at the December committee meeting.

Leader Recognition – The Thompson-Poudre District will recognize outstanding leaders at the annual Awards Event on Friday, February 9. Nominations will be accepted at the December or January roundtable meetings. There is also a Spark Plug award given for each unit – the recipient of this can be a parent or other individual who does a great job for our pack. I have nomination information if you are interested, and there is also information on the district web site.

Religious Emblems – Jennifer is putting together a pack notebook on all the religious medals available, what age scout can earn them and what medal is received for them.

Per our council office, here is some information regarding awards:

bulletAs long as the form has been signed by the priest and Cubmaster, there is no other documentation required for awarding the knot. Do we as a pack want to require a copy of this form, or is our Cubmaster’s knowledge that he signed the form enough?
bulletCatholic scouts who earn the Light of Christ award (can only be earned by Tiger Cubs and Wolf scouts) do earn the purple religious knot.
bulletFor all religions, the purple knot is only awarded once. As the scout completes further religious training he receives devices that are worn on the knot.
bulletScouts may wear their religious medals over the left pocket of their uniform for dress occasions.

Landon Ochwat completed his Light of Christ requirements last May, and the paperwork was signed off last May. He will receive his purple religious knot at the November pack meeting.

Belt Loops – Several people have asked why there are not belt loops available for hockey or karate. Would it be possible to offer a patch in place of the belt loop, and count these towards the Webelos Sportsman badge, which requires 2 individual sports and 2 team sports to earn? How about requiring a form signed by the hockey coach or karate instructor? Should the karate patch be considered martial arts instead?

Assistant Cubmaster’s Role & Transition – Mark Clark will be taking a more active role starting with the December pack meeting and will take over full leadership in March. Chuck will move into an advisory position as Assistant Cubmaster following the Blue & Gold Banquet, and will be staying on with the pack until May in order to earn his Cubmaster Knot. As far as I know, we have never had a truly active Assistant Cubmaster before. Other than helping with awards, are there any other ideas for this position?

November pack meeting – Space Derby and Uniform Inspection

Uniform inspection will take place during the Derby. Jennifer has packs of baseball cards to give the boys instead of pencils this year. Do we want to give out Space Derby cards?

December pack meeting – Holidays and Service Project

We will be making Christmas cards to benefit the Secret Santa Giving Tree for the Elderly. This is a local program, in its fifth year, reaches out to the elderly who do not have family by providing holiday cards and goodies. This will be a family effort – parents and siblings are welcome to join in. Our goal is to make at least 300 cards. We will need markers, crayons, glue, etc. – maybe have kids bring their own or each den bring a supply to use. Pack will provide the paper and a greeting insert that the kids can use if they want to.

Crystal Strauss will present the city award for our natural area work.

Budget discussion:

Storage unit – Miramont Self Storage has offered us a discounted rate of $40/month (usually $43/month) for a 5’X10’ unit. We receive a further discount of 10% if we pay for the entire year in advance, which brings the figure to $432 for the year.

Do we want to appoint a quartermaster to deal with check in/out of supplies? Deposits? Dens will sign out items for a certain period, etc.

Wish List - As discussed at the August planning meeting – we need a wish list of items to keep on hand for dens to use. We now have leatherworking tools! Camping items, day camp tarps and water cooler and other ideas were tossed around. Please bring suggestions to the December meeting and we will try to finalize this.

AGENDA OF COMMITTEE MEETING ON APRIL 19, 2000

7:00PM Call to order

Minutes – Rick Wells

Treasurer’s Report is attached.

Personnel Changes at the District Level

Dave Perea and Dave Jarvis have moved on to new Scout horizons. The new Senior District Executive is Kelly Moll (225-8129). You can also contact Dawn T-Baumgartner at 226-5837.

FOS Update

By achieving our top goal this year, we will be receiving free rank badges (Bobcat-Arrow of Light). We will also receive a free Webelos Resource Book and Program Helps for all registered leaders. Please thank all your parents again for their contributions!

Pack Library has been cleaned out. Please remember to sign out items so we know where they are if someone else needs them.

Natural Area – Jennifer

We are set for the new area. Do we want to do a pack cleanup in May? What dens are interested in helping out this summer? A pack cleanup will definitely be planned for September, followed by den assignments for the rest of the year.

Volunteer Sign-Up

Volunteer sign-up at the March pack meeting went well. There are still some positions to be filled:

Blue & Gold Banquet chairman

Pinewood Derby assistant coordinator

Pinewood Derby help (set-up, check-in, judge (1), trophies)

Service Project Coordinator

Popcorn Committee (Co-chairman, pickup)

Badgers den had signed up for popcorn pick-up from distribution center. I have moved you to den distribution as we cannot have kids at the distribution center lifting cases of popcorn!

I would like an adult volunteer from the Cobras and one from the Flaming Dragons to help with popcorn distribution as there were no parent sign-ups from these dens. Also, we need someone to volunteer their garage for distribution of popcorn to the dens.

Summer Camps – info attached

Each den is responsible for their own sign up. Please let Melinda know when you are going so that we can accommodate boys who can’t make camp with their own den. Fees for camp are:

Bear/Wolf 2 nights $50.00 (2 leaders free per den)

Webelos 3 nights $75.00 (2 leaders free per den)

Partner & Pal 1 night $50.00 (includes scout & parent)

A copy of our FOS discount voucher must be attached to your registration form when you send it in.

You will receive notice of your camp date from the Greeley office within 2-3 weeks, along with detailed registration forms for each scout. Den leaders are responsible for their own dens, not the camp coordinator. Scouts may take the forms to camp with them.

Day Camp

Training session is on Thursday, May 18th. Who will attend? Do we want to move committee meeting to 6:30PM before Roundtable on May 11th? We will plan to have a short meeting with all day camp help following the May pack meeting.

Summer Activities – a summer information sheet will be given to den leaders to pass out to their dens and announcements will be made at the April pack meeting. There will be a patch available at each event for $1.00.

  1. Raingutter Regatta – Sunday, June 11th, 4:30-7:00PM – LocationTBA
  2. There is a $40 fee to reserve pavilions with the Parks & Rec department, and not many available due to softball and baseball tournaments in town. Could we use a neighborhood park – Fossil Creek near the school would be great. Another alternative is to have it at the school, out back by the playground. Families will bring their own picnic and the boys will race their boats. Kits will be on sale at the April pack meeting.
  3. Family Camp Out – Saturday, July 15th, 2PM – Sunday, July 16th, 10AM
  4. We will have a first ever family pack campout at Hermit Park, HP’s park located just south of Estes Park. We would like to plan some afternoon activities and games, followed by a pack cookout and campfire program. Families are on their own for breakfast, and should plan to leave by 10AM.

HELP! We will need people to help with activities and cooking. Please recruit your parents. We are planning a $25.00 fee per family to cover the cost of games, snacks and dinner.

  5. Swim Party – Sunday, August 20th, 5-7PM – Location TBA
bulletFamily swim party and ice cream social, provided by the pack. Water games and a dunk-the-cubmaster contest. No cost for this event.

Scouting with the Colorado Rockies

The Rockies are offering two discounted games to scouts this year:

Thursday, June 15th 1:05PM vs Houston Astros

Monday, July 17th 7:05PM vs Oakland A’s

Tickets are $9.00 each and we must sign up as a pack. Are we interested?

April Pack Meeting – Bugs & Things

Set-up: Vipers, Den 4 Opening: Cobras

Sparklers: Den 3, Tiger Cubs Closing & takedown: Den 1

Awards and speaker on bugs.

May Pack Meeting – Graduation ceremony

Set-up: Badgers, Den 5 Opening: Badgers

Sparklers: NONE Closing: Tiger Cubs

Pack meeting will have awards only (no songs Chuck!) in the flex room, followed by a graduation ceremony in the gym. There will be a short meeting in the flex room following the pack meeting for parents who will be helping at day camp.

The pack will provide scarves for all boys. If you know of a boy who will not be continuing, please let us know.

Budget for next year

Pinewood Derby scale - we need one that does not qualify as an antique!

Blue & Gold banquet – increase by $50

Need to increase the copying budget to cover committee meeting agendas, song sheets for pack meetings, newsletter copies, etc.

Any other additions?

Back to School Drive

Back-to-school night is Thursday, September 7th, which gives us a much better time table as school will start on August 23rd. We need volunteers for sign-up and a coordinator. We need a volunteer to attend a training meeting on August 21 or 22 so that we have the necessary forms and goals in place.

Meeting dates for next year

  1. Committee meetings at 6:30 before Roundtable at 7:30 – this would eliminate one night a month for meetings, and we end up doing this anyway in November and December.
  2. Pack meetings on Thursday nights?
  3. Committee plan-the-year meeting August 17th , 7-9:30PM at my house – any date conflicts?
