RIVERFEST 1998

Well over one thousand volunteers turned out for the
Riverfest and Cleanup on September 12th at Lee Martinez
park. The event included the presentation of 1998's
Gene Mitchell Award winner, recognizing significant
contributions to the community and ideals of the Poudre
River Trust.

1998's recipient of the Gene Mitchell Award was Alex Cringan
Alex Cringan is a charter member of the Poudre River Trust
and was instrumental in establishing:

    The Poudre River as a National Recreation Area

    The Old Power Plant as a historic landmark

    The osprey as a recognized nesting bird of the Fort Collins Urban Growth area

    The Poudre River Corridor Fishery Plan

    The Cherokee Park land exchange

    The Gustav Swanson Nature Area

Alex was presented the "Take Pride in America"
award on behalf of the Poudre River Trust and the
Fort Collins Audobon Society in a Rose Garden
ceremony as the guest of President George Bush.
