Overview
SAVA’s Outreach/Education Program is based around a theatrical project entitled Until Someone Wakes Up. Featuring scenes of comedy, drama, and satire this piece explores the issues surrounding sexual violence, gender role socialization, and healing.
The original script for Until Someone Wakes Up was written in 1992 at Macalester College in Minnesota. Professor Carolyn Levy and her students interviewed actual perpetrators and survivors of sexual violence and turned those interviews into the scenes in the play. All of the stories are true.
SAVA began producing a local production of Until Someone Wakes Up in 2000. The show was originally intended as a one-time event: it has since grown by leaps and bounds. Now, six years later, the play tours across Colorado to high schools, colleges, church groups, and community groups. SAVA has also presented the play to communities and schools in Utah and Wyoming.

Just want to make a difference?
The Outreach/Education Program is constantly seeking passionate, talented volunteers to help out in all capacities of our production of Until Someone Wakes Up. All volunteers are required to attend a one day training covering sexual assault, SAVA services, and program information.
-
Acting: We are always in need of more performers for the show. Prior acting experience is preferred, but not required. Roles are available for men and women between the ages of 15 and 25. Under 18 requires parent permission. Rehearsals typically run for six weeks, two nights a week. Strong comedic and dramatic skills are needed.
-
Tech: Our production utilizes an array of props, lighting, and sound. Individuals are needed for stage management, prop design/revamping, and light/sound operation. Volunteers must be at least sixteen years old.
-
Marketing: We always need people interested in marketing to help promote our show. Got ideas on how to market our show? Contact us for more information.
-
Other: SAVA offers many other volunteer opportunities related to the play. Contact us with any ideas or questions regarding additional volunteer opportunities.
