Scout Master's Minute

School is almost out and summer is here. We have lots of fun and exciting stuff scheduled for this summer. Of course, we can always fit in more. Remember, one of the main reasons we in Scouting is because we love the great outdoors and we want our Scouts to love it as well. So, if you have an idea for a summertime outdoor activity let us know. Activities don't have to be overnight or involve the whole troop. Day activites and patrol activitites are fine.

So what is up next for the troop? We have a campout in June at Camp Laramie Peak in Wyoming. It is a service project for the scouts and, since we will be cutting trees, for as many dads with chainsaws as we can get. We will also be allowed to haul away as much of the wood as we want. After that is summer camp. We need to start looking over the leader guide that was sent home and selecting programs, merit badges, etc. Then in August we have the camping trip to Fulford Cave. This will be a really great trip. However, since it is further away and involves caving, we need to start our sign-up and planning now. The schedule looks full, but we can always make room for more fun!

A couple of other notes:

Camp Laramie Peak Servie Project (June 12-14): We will bew cutting and clearing downed trees at CLP in preparation for the ORder of the Arrow service the following weekend. We will need as many adults with chainsaws for this as possible. Anyone who wants firewood can haul as much as they like. We have also been offered the opportunity to provide meals for other volunteers as a fundraiser for our troop. We will get more details on that as the plan develops.
BSA Physicals for Summer Camp: The BSA now requires a new physical every year. Sorry folks but the ones we did last year are no longer valid. If you have a physical scheduled this year for some other activity, that can be used as long as the information is on the new BSA physical form. Physicals are required for adults as well if they are staying longer that 72 hours at camp. Dr. Parliment will be performing camp physicals at the meeting on June 23rd @7pm for both scouts and adults. For those who don't know Dr. Parliment, he is the father of one of our Eagle scouts, Drew Parliment, and he has graciously completed these physicals for the troop for many years.
